Electron Beam Laboratory
Welcome to the Virginia Tech Geosciences Electron Beam Laboratory Website. There are two major instruments in the lab in 5066-5067 Derring - a Cameca SX50 Electron Microprobe and a Camscan Series II Scanning Electron Microscope. The microprobe is principally used for quantitative analysis and compositional imaging of materials and the SEM for high-quality scanning microscopy imaging.
This site provides basic descriptions of the capabilities of the instruments and will showcase some recent research results. We update periodically, so check back for new results!
For general information on the laboratory, to discuss analytical and imaging capabilities, and to schedule time on either instrument, please contact the lab supervisor, Prof. Robert Tracy (5064 Derring Hall) at 540-231-5980 or by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
